DO I NEED TO SEND IN THE REGISTRATION PAPERS
YES!
Both AKC and UKC registry’s require the new owner to register their new dog as a transfer of ownership, meaning that if you DO NOT send in the “puppy papers” that you receive with your new dog, then both AKC and UKC still have me listed on their records as the owner.
Puppy papers, transfer papers, and permanent registration papers are legal documents and should be treated as such. Even if you are planning on spaying or neutering your dog, send in the paperwork! Even if you are never planning on running your dog in an AKC or UKC sanctioned event, send in the paperwork!
Kennels and breeders get audited from time to time by both AKC and UKC. The auditor has a list of dogs with them that are registered in the breeders name that they compare to the dogs that are on the premises and the breeders paperwork.
Some states require breeding licenses or fees if you own over a certain number of animals. Some states are currently pushing through legislation that outlaws kennels over a certain maximum number of animals.
Due to puppy owners not turning in their registration papers, kennel owners and breeders can easily be fined, have their licenses revoked, or be charged a higher fee for a license due to being over the limit.
Any warranty that I give with the purchase of any of our pups is void if the dog is not permanently registered with BOTH AKC and UKC !
