INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Firehouselabs.
I started raising Labrador Retrievers in 2003. My goal has been to breed Labs with the purpose for which the breed originated….. to find, flush, and retrieve downed game willingly for its owner in the fields and marshes.
Labradors bred for function as a rule need to have the conformation, health, and temperament outlined in the breed standard and that is the standard to which we are breeding to. Many breeders claim to be breeding to “improve the breed..” I feel that not only is that a false claim, but one that is ultimately dangerous to the breed as a whole. We should be breeding to the Labrador Breed Standard, which was set long ago to preserve the health, conformation, and temperament of the breed.
I strive to improve MY LINE of retrievers. No dog is perfect. They all have faults that do not meet the breed standard in some way, thus my breeding goals are to better my line of dogs, generation by generation until I reach my goal of a Labrador that has the drive, ability, conformation, genetic health, and temperament to be a champion in the field, in the show ring, and of course in the family home.
Many have asked how I came up with the name for my kennel. My husband and daughter are/were on the Volunteer Fire Dept. in both previous towns of residence and also our current location right outside of the town of Holt MO. My daughter is currently in college in Nebraska so she is taking a break from Fire and Rescue duties but her little brother is going to be filling her bunker gear as soon as he reaches the required age of 14.
I invite you to view the dogs and my progress through this website. I have tried to make the pages user friendly and to include as much information as possible as well as having plenty of photos. There is a lot of information on my website, please come back often if needed to reference some of it. I try to keep everything current and will be adding to the subjects as it comes available from reliable sources. First and foremost I promise to provide accurate information from the original sources, as well as the original links to where I found the information. With that said, feel free to browse through my pages and contact me if you have any questions!
